Muting hides someone from you. Blocking separates you both ways. Neither person is told.
Their posts, replies and mentions stop appearing in your feeds, threads, search, suggestions and notifications. They can still see your posts and reply to them.
Everything muting does, and they can no longer see your posts, follow you or message you. That includes acting through an organisation they help run.
Go to Settings › Safety. Everyone you've muted or blocked is listed under Muted and Blocked.
